PM Rama: “Albanian immigrants will vote from the countries they live in”

Albanian emigrants will be able to vote from the countries they reside
in, without having to travel to Albania, said the Prime Minister of
Albania, Edi Rama.

The first step is registering Albanians abroad, and then including them in the voting system.

“It remains a challenge for us to guarantee their participation in elections. We are the only country in Europe which has not registered its own people abroad. We don’t know where they are, what they need, and without this registration, it will be impossible to include them in the voting process. The registration process has already started and it will be extended to all countries where they live”, Rama said.

The Prime Minister said they hope to unify the consulate services with Kosovo, but underlined that this is not about a Greater Albania. He even gave the idea of launching a Balkan consulate service.

The Albanian Foreign Minister, Ditmir Bushati, spoke about the need to create an accurate and trusted digital archive for the all consulate documents. The Online Consulate Service has 36 services with simple procedures, standardized and unified into a single platform.
