The guest on this Thursday’s “Top Story” on Top Channel, hosted by Sokol
Balla, was Shpetim Idrizi, the leader of the Party for Justice,
Integrity and Unity. His party advocates among others the rights of the
Cham people who were evicted by force from Greece, after WWII.
While asked about political coalitions before the Elections 2017 and about their rival party, the Socialist Movement for Integration, Idrizi was reserved and stated that their cause would need every single political force, but if someone was to attack the Cham party, they would face it without avoiding political battles.
“We have good relations with Meta, Rama and Basha, because that’s my nature and that’s the calling of the PJIU. We need all possible political forces for the Cham case and for Albanian matters in general. I have spoken and I have no problems with him. We don’t want political war with other parties. It’s not a problem if we have them, but we don’t want them”, the PJIU leader said.
Idrizi confirmed that for the next elections they would be part of the current governing coalition.
As for the harsh declarations that the SMI Minister of Justice launched against him, Idrizi reminded that the SMI has ruled the country with the Democratic Party for four years.
“Mr.Manjani acts as if he doesn’t know that the SMI has been ruling with the DP for four years. There are left-centered parties which act like right-centered ones, and vice-versa. But no party in Albania has been voted so far for a right-centered or left-centered program. There are parties that have been unified with their causes”, Idrizi said.
As for the disagreements with Greece, Idrizi said they will not make them veto Albania’s EU accession.
“The case of the Cham people is about justice. It is not a good that can be traded. Governments and communities of today trust democracy, are founded on democratic institutions. We trust that Greece is a country which respects the standards of justice and democracy. It is not up to Greece. They cannot block our progress for the Cham case, because they would be denying the existence and solution of this issue. This is why Greece focused so much on 15 homes in Himara, rather than in an area where their community lives”, he said.
Idrizi added that the PJIU is aiming to establish a Ministry of Diaspora in the future, and that immigrants should be represented in Parliament by their own MPs.
