The decision of the European Council about Albania was welcomed by the
President of the European Parliament, Gianni Pitella, and the Head of
the Delegation for Balkan, Eduard Kukan.
“This is a milestone in the eventual path to the EU”, declared President Pitella.
“The status recognizes the progress of Albania in reforms and its constructive role in the region, and the government’s determination for the European agenda”.
“I hope it will help building a bridge for the deep differences between the political parties, who often hamper the country’s progerss”, says the press release of the Italian European MP.
“The reforms are worth being followed on behalf of the citizens, and not only for the EU. I encourage Albania in its efforts to eradicate corruption, organized crime, to reinforce the judiciary and for modernizing the economy, which are the main challenges for the country”, Pitella declared.
Eduard Kukan, from the right wing, says that “the decision came in the right moment. Albania has made significant achievements for the EU stats, and needs to remain credible in the integration process”, says the press release of Kukan.
“I want to congratulate the Albanian government for the progress made so far on the EU agenda. This progress has been made possible only with the joint efforts of all political actors”,d eclared the Slovakian MP, encouraging all Albanian politicians to focus on the key reforms.
“The decision should encourage not only Albania, but the entire region. The integration process is demanding, but when there are enough efforts, they bring results”, declared the Chairman of the Delegation for Balkan at the European Parliament.
