Pirro Dhima, the technical director for USA Weightlifting, who was born in Albania and emigrated to Greece after 1990, explains in an interview how he felt racism in Greece in the 90s.
Dhima says that when travelling in a bus in Greece, he would fear that somebody would accuse him of some stolen property.
He admits that the relatively closed society of Greece has made some progress, but there is still more to be done. He reminds that if he wouldn’t have been a champion, he would have not been accepted the same way in Greece, as people in Greece tend to be racist to the weaker and the poor.
