Piracy, AMA warns cable operators

The Audiovisual Media Authority will not tolerate anymore violation of
the law or TV iracy. The Chairman of the AMA, Gential Sala, asked all
cable TV operators to pay annual taxes and show the broadcasting permit
and copyrights.
Piracy is a process that must end, and the law implementation will be the only partnership between AMA and the operators.
“Stop piracy, because there is no AMA worker that can defend you with the theft of someone else’s property. There are sanctions, zone reduction and license suspensions for this. Bring the annual payment as soon as possible, together with the copyrights. These are elementary. This should be done as soon as possible”, declared the new leader of this institution, Gentian Sala.
There are 114 cable operators in our country, 25 of whom are completely unlicensed. Some have expressed their concerns about the recent operations of the Electricity Distribution Company, when they were removed from the network.
“We want to know if any of us can broadcast from the national TV stations, even without an agreement. Some cable TV operators have problems for laying their cables on electricity polls. Can you affect this issue, or not?”, declared Edmond Zane, cable TV operator.
“There is the obligation to transmit national TV Stations such as RTSH, Top Channel and TV Klan in the electronic communication cable TV of authorized subjects, and repeating the programs in areas where there is no signal coverage. This is the main condition. The next issue is that of the payment. You all broadcast even in the areas where these operators have signal. This can be fixed by the Electronic and Post Communication Authority (AKEP)m but AKEP will sooner or later start inspecting if their authorization is being respected”, declared the head of AMA, Genti Sala.
“There are several free channels, such as RAI, and no one in Albania has the right to sell them. But people from AMA come and ask if we have agreements for these channels and they want us to remove them, but the foreign owners of these channels have no objections if we use them”, declared Edmond Isaku, chairman of the association.
The AMA leader declared that there will be no more permits without criteria and no decision will be taken against the law.
