Peshkopi, head of Luzni commune asks the sixth mandate

A phenomenon of these elections was the repeated candidacy of the
actual leaders, many of them asking the fourth or the fifth mandate.

But in Peshkopia there is a unique case. One local executive has been leading his commune since 1991, and is still asking for a new mandate.

Haxhi Damzi has been the head of the Luzni village commune, in Peshkopia. Damzi has won five mandates, and he says that his case is unique.

“I don’t think that there are other communes that have had the same leader for five mandates, from 1991 to 2011”, says Damzi.

He was 30 years old when he became head of the commune for the first time. 20 years in the same post have started to be a little boring for him, but however, he says, he will not retire.

“It is a special case. Even if you are head of your family for 20 years, there will be a lot of problems and you could be angry with that”, Damzi said.

Luzni commune extends at the southwest of Peshkopia and includes 6 villages, with a total number of 4,000 residents. Only 50 of them are employed in institutions. The others live by agriculture and farming, in extreme poverty.
