The Deputy Prime Minister, Niko Peleshi, declared that the government is
resisting without raising the energy price for consumers, by seeing the
market liberalization as a possibility.
“The Minister has always resisted and refused to take this option under consideration, because we are in a phase in which we have not exhausted the huge potential that gives the distribution management”, Deputy Prime Minister Peleshi declared.
He said that the Task Force for Energy, established by the government in September, will now enter a new phase, which is making harsher measures for citizens, institutions or businesses that do not pay the energy obligations. By keeping in mind the deep crisis of this sector, the Minister of Energy, Damian Gjiknuri, declared that years will be needed for this to turn into a lucrative sector.
“4 to 5 years will be needed before the sector turns lucrative, since the debts are very huge. The damage made to this sector is extraordinary. There have been ill-thought privatizations that have increased the cost of energy by turning it into a constant pressure for the fees of the Albanian consumers”, Minister Gjiknuri declared.
The Director of the Distribution System, Arben Seferi, declared that the energy losses have been reduced with 1.2 billion ALL compared to the same period of one year ago.
“From 5.1 billion ALL that the loss was in the first six months of 2013, the loss for the first semester of 2014 is 3.9 billion ALL, or 1.2 billion ALL less”, Seferi declared.
Another problematic indicator for the distribution system is with the payments of delay interests, which, according to Seferi, have increased with 3.9 times.
