Nelgert Pata, who was executed this Sunday in Fier, is known to
Norwegian authorities and media. He and three Norwegians, currently
sentenced, led a prostitution network in Trondheim. When he was arrested
in Albania, Norwegian authorities were very interested to know about
his sentence.
Three women testified against him and the rest of the group, which made Norwegian authorities sentence five persons. The Court of Serious Crimes, but the Supreme Court cut the verdict in half, ruling that the crime should be rephrased.
The court rejected the collaboration accusation, giving him eight years in prison for lack of evidence. The Norwegian police say they had an excellent cooperation with the Albanian police, until he received the first verdict from the Court of Serious Crimes, but then he was left free.
Norwegian media have paid attention to other crimes Pata was accused of, such as the kidnapping and threatening of a businessman in Greece. The file coming from Norway had enough evidence for a capital conviction, but it was rejected by the Supreme Court of Albania.
