The Albanian Deputy Interior Minister, Ferdinand Poni announced that the
number of people who have applied for biometrical passports reached 2
million.
According to Poni, the 2 millionth application was made this Wednesday, showing a pace that has not been seen even in other countries.
Since July 2009, when the production of biometric passports started, and until now there have been produced 1.97 million passports, and 1.92 million citizens have received theirs.
While for the identity cards, Poni declared that only during the last week there have been 11.000 applications and that the authorities have all necessary capacities for facing this flux.
