The majority invited once again the opposition for giving its
contribution in the preparation of the administrative-territorial
reform. But once again, the invitation made by the Parliament Speaker
was rejected by the opposition.
“This is the time to realize some reforms together. This is the time to make the administrative and territorial reform in our country. This is the goal of our government. It was a goal of the former government, but they didn’t have the votes. Today we have the chance to do it. The new majority is committed for this reform, and also to allow the opposition have all the necessary space, starting from the establishing of a commission with equal membership, with joint leaders and with the right to veto. Albania would save 80 million USD from the administrative and territorial reform”, Meta declared.
Right after the Parliament Speaker, former Prime Minister, Sali Berisha, declared that the invitation of the Socialist Party was not sincere, and they only make it only for the next elections.
“Your invitation is not sincere, because the bipartisan commissions have worked not only with the right to veto. You are asking consensus today for a plan that you have prepared for the next elections. Your problem are not the citizens, because they don’t exist for you”, Basha declared.
The rejection of the Democratic Party was warned earlier, when Lulzim Basha, opposition leader and Mayor of Tirana, closed all the chances for compromise for the territorial reform if there would be no public consultations.
No commune will be changed without hearing the voice of the citizens.
“The territorial reform, which is also an electoral reform and reform of the local administration, cannot take a legal step without replacing full consensus in every process of the decision making between the majority and the opposition. Not only consensus with the opposition, but also a wide civil consensus, by consultance, transparency, all-inclusiveness and accountability is a necessary condition”, Basha declared.
