The Democratic Party changed its stance regarding the Parliamentary
Investigative Commission requested by the Socialist Party, after the
opposition accused that the army had been used for drug traffic.
The Democratic Party will be part of this Commission even if the Socialist Party will not agree to enlarge its investigative range. The Democratic Party leader declared that the current objective of the investigation is to investigate those who brought the news, rather than the drug traffic.
Democratic Party leader, Lulzim Basha: Let them try to investigate why this information was written or sent. They can take the role of political prosecutors of the communism area, to investigate the freedom of speech and parliamentary behavior. All they can do now is return the article 55 of agitation and propaganda.
Edi Paloka, Head of the Democratic Party Parliamentary Group: Certainly that we will be part and will insist for this investigation to be wider. Even in the session, but also in the Commission, we will ask the object to be enlarged and Albanians should receive information about the drug traffic and about how implicated are the state institutions in this traffic, if they are implicated.
Despite giving two different stances within 24 hours, the Democratic Party thought it was reasonable to say that the media have misunderstood the stance of the opposition, when they declared that they would not be part of the Commission, since the Socialist Party had formulated the object of investigation.
“Since some media outlets misunderstood the stance of the Democratic Party, our purpose in this matter was made clear by the Democratic Party leader, Basha, who said that we would go to the end of the transparency with this issue”, Paloka declared.
In fact, in the Democratic Group meeting Basha spoke about another type of transparency.
“Our vital battle for transparency on the traffic of narcotics will continue from a new phase, and we will take another step… that of recognizing the stance held by this government about the verification of information, and about the measures that they took. For this reason, our Parliament Members have summoned Minister Kodheli in the Security Commission to ask her and discuss about what stance they held with the drug traffic made through the military logistics”, Basha declared.
The Parliament will decide this Thursday if they will establish the Investigative Commission asked by Socialists, and if they will accept or not the changing of the investigation object, as the Democratic Party wants. This decision will bring to an end the misunderstandings, which, in this case, more than a media misunderstanding seems like a political malfunction of the opposition.
