The Albanian Parliament officially started its work today. The first
ones to be present for the first session of the new legislature were the
Socialists, who couldn’t hide the enthusiasm for winning a majority
without the help of smaller parties, for the first time in 25 years.

After them, the MPs of the Socialist Movement for Integration arrived, the party that won more seats than four years ago, when they were able to condition the political rotation.

The Democratic Party MPs came lower in lumber, with very well organized. More than half of their lawmakers are young and first timers, but the highest optimism, however, came from their oldest MP.

“It is good that the Speaker is an MP”, said former DP leader, Sali Berisha.

The session was opened by the Socialist MP, Besnik Baraj. The three eldest MPs refused to open the session, from Sali Berisha and Tritan Shehu of the Socialist Democratic, and also Gramoz Ruci from the Socialists.

“I wish this Parliament creates the trust that the country’s interests are above everything, including personal and party ones”, Baraj said.

Edi Paloka, the Head of the Democratic Party Parliamentary Group, said that they would not vote in favor of Gramoz Ruci, but they would join the protest of former political prisoners and citizens, a reaction that according to Paloka is also related to the election result.

The representatives of the Cham population, the Party for Justice, Integrity and Unity, is also expected to vote in favor of Ruci.

“We care for the Cham case and the national matter. If we have support on these, we will support him”, said MP Aqif Rakipi.
