The socialist majority in the Albanian parliament withdrew from re-voting the law of news portals, which was rejected by the president Ilir Meta, pending the Venice Commission opinion in March.
Meanwhile the parliament gave green light to changes in the constructions law by sanctioning obligatory safety checks in all buildings over 50 years old.
Prime Minister Edi Rama said that building construction safety is an ugly and dangerous phenomena, accompanying Albania in these last 30 years.
“Control over building permits cannot work if there is no direct criminal liability for the whole chain, which means that the architects cannot just deliver the project on paper, and leave. Constructors will be held liable if after obtaining permission from the municipality for a 5-storey building the developer says ‘let’s make it 8’ and the constructor agrees in order to adapt to the developer’s demand”, said Rama.
