The Albanian Parliament discussed about the drug traffic today. The
opposition MP, Arben Ristani, accused the government institutions of not
having the right will to fight organized crime and corruption.

Ristani quoted international institution data and said that Albania has turned into a bridge country for drugs.

“The US State Department is offering strong support in this direction, but there is not much to be ahppy about this. We have to be sad with the crime level that this country has been plunged into by this government in the past two years. The narcotics caught by the police in Italy and Greece has reached historic levels. The concern has been raised by the Italian anti-mafia and the Geneva Prosecutors, who said that Albania is the Columbia of Europe”, Ristani declared.

The former Prime Minister, Sali Berisha, accused the government of favoring the drug traffic. He said that despite the intervention in Lazarat, the cultivation has increased, even with opium.

Berisha blamed the government even for the drug lab discovered in Elbasan, and mentioned some figures recorded during his government which, according to him, by the former government.

The Interior Minister, Saimir Tahiri, answered to the accusations and said that the Albanian citizens are now able to make the distinction between the two governments.

“Albania is outside the map of the countries that are a transit to the narcotics, thanks to the fight against drugs”, Tahiri declared.
