“Budget 2024” was approved in a few minutes in an unusual plenary session today in the Albanian parliament with 74 votes in favor, 4 against and no abstentions.
The opposition MPs repeatedly gathered the chairs around the pulpit, between shoves and clashes with the Guard’s officers, as they lit colored flares again and explosions were heard in the hall.
Amid the clash of tables and cries of “Shame, shame!”, the speaker of the Assembly, Lindita Nikolla, approved the “Budget 2024” item by item.
“Unfortunately, the opposition continues on the path of illegality, but the fate of one man cannot be the fate of Albanians, Albanians want to vote on the budget for investments, for salary increases, for better quality services, you cannot hold the assembly hostage,” she said.
The democratic deputy, Asllan Dogjani, was expelled from the session, after lighting a flare.
The Guard of the Republic was placed on standby to ensure the maintenance of order during today’s session in the Assembly, where the budget for 2024 was expected to be approved item by item.
The opposition warned of chaos and blockage of work in the Assembly after the 10-day expulsion of 6 deputies; Sali Berisha, Flamur Noka, Edi Paloka, Albana Vokshi and Elda Hoti, as the protagonists of the tensions last time in the Parliament with the smoking torch.
The same scenario has been repeated several times in the last plenary sessions in the Assembly, while in Monday’s session there was an attempt to set fire to the chairs gathered around the pulpit.
