The pandemic has affected the entire population, but seems to have aggravated drugs and alcohol addiction.
The new reality caused by the Covid-19 pandemic has increased the consumption of alcohol and drugs in homes, warehouses, garages. If before we saw consequences of consumption in bars and pubs, now addicts bring home all their problems.
“The number of calls we receive from family members has increased significantly. They are mainly women, mothers, sisters, cohabitants. They complain that the person uses verbal and physical violence, demands money, uses threats. ‘please come and take him’, they say, as they cannot cope with life at home with these persons. We get 20-30 calls a day. One Saturday we received about 70 calls. More and more young people are consuming cocaine. 20-25 year olds find hashish and hashish oil and consume it. The people who suffer from alcohol addiction are mainly 30-45 years old “, says among others things Shpëtim Doksani, Head of the Addiction Section, in the QSUT hospital.
“Family members are very important in the treatment process. They should seek the help of a family doctor and ours as a specialized link. We have not discontinued the treatment of patients for any moment. There is definitely a cure for them,” he added.
