Domestic violence continues to be a worrying phenomenon in Albanian society and it seems that the pandemic, quarantine regime and economic difficulties that followed, directly affected the increase in the aforementioned cases.

30% more cases of violence against women were registered in Elbasan during the period January-August 2020, compared to the same period a year ago.

The quarantine period closed not only homes but also courts and shelters for abused women. In this situation cohabitation with the perpetrator was inevitable.

Due to an unusual situation with great difficulties, the charity organization Women’s Forum increased its services by helping in serious cases with the payment of rent for abused women and food packages.
