The Fier Nitrogen Plant was dismantled for several weeks, and its parts
were sold for scrap in the Metallurgy at Elbasan. Millions of Euros sold
for little money, without tender.
The former plant today has turned into a place where people try to collect the crumbles left by the political power, among the exploitation of national assets as it was private property.
Poor residents of the surrounding areas come here everyday, as a silent army, although they could be caught by the police, which with them has no tolerance at all, there where law is not equal for everyone.
From Fier, the crew of “The Other Albania” program goes to Maliq, the town that has been forgotten from everyone and everything.
In the suburbs of this former industrial town, today stand the ruins of the former Thermal Energy Central, which is suffering the same fat as the Fier Nitrogen Plant. People come to gather the pieces of metal that will be sold, and the money will be used for passing another day.
Despite the distance between each other, the TEC in Maliq and many other public assets have suffered the same fate.
This is the reality that the citizens in these areas face everyday. Besides destruction, no one is giving them any hope of development.
The Fier Nitrogen Plant, the TEC in Maliq and Cerrik, and many others, are small symbols of how life goes in this country, where left and right winged politicians complain, murmur, promise and become always richer by exploiting everything that they find in their way. The other Albania, where politics controls everything, even survival and life itself.
