After the media published a report coming from the OSCE offices, in
which the Albanian politicians are mentioned as tied with several
corruptive affairs and mafia groups, Top Channel addressed to the
General Secretary of the OSCE in Vienna, Lamberto Zannier, for an
explanation on this report.
The answer repeats what has been declared by the OSCE Ambassador to Tirana, Mr.Raunig, and admits that the reaction has placed the institution in an uncomfortable position.
“The report in question is an internal document, similar to dozens others that each of us drafts on a daily bases so that we can have an idea of what is happening in several countries”, says the e-mail addressed to Top Channel.
The answer adds that the declaration made by Ambassador Raunig is very clear, that the information does not represent the policy of the OSCE presence, it is not an evaluation and does not shape the bases of other reports. It was simply the collected reports from the Albanian media. The information has not been verified, since the goal was to have a collection of the accusations, not to define their truth, according to the General Secretary of the OSCE.
According to the OSCE, this is a normal way through which organizations try to have a better view of the situation from the domestic opinions. “We see what the local media say, what officials say, and certainly the information is collected in one document for informative reasons, not for decisions”, the e-mail explains.
The official answer concludes that the OSCE mandate does not include an investigation of the public officials and makes no declarations if the claims made by the media are true or not.
