OSCE Ambassador: “Remove slander from the Criminal Code”

The OSCE Ambassador to Tirana, Bernd Broschard, insists that slander should not be on the criminal code.
“Although it’s not sentenced with prison, people can receive a criminal fine for slander. OSCE and our friends at ODIHR have recommended that it should be removed from the criminal code. We know that some Western countries have it, but those countries have functional judiciaries, and Albania has still more to do about this”, Borchard said.
The Ambassador said that the jurisprudence of the European Court for Human Rights is the limit that divides slander from the freedom of speech.
