Jonathan Stonestreet, chief of OSCE ODIHR long term observers, attended a meeting with the Socialist Movement for Integration (SMI) leader, Ilir Meta, but gave no comments for the media.

The SMI leader said that during the meeting they discussed on the electoral campaign and the maximal commitment of this party for a good administration of May 8th local elections.

“We confirmed SMI’s commitment at all levels of the election process administration, referring only to the law, the Election Code and legal procedures. We valued the commitment of OSCE ODIHR and appealed for the presence of even more foreign observers on May 8th elections”, Meta declared.

SMI has been recently accused for the Berat incident, where a Socialist Party supporter was physically attacked by two relatives of the SMI candidate, for the stabbing in Tirana, where SMI supporters wounded with a knife the 18 year old A. Doçi, for the Kashar incident and the banners against the Socialist candidate at Pogradec.

Ilir Meta categorically denied any involvement of the SMI members or supporters with these incidents.

“No incident has been caused by SMI leaders. These fabrications come from the slander factory, especially against SMI. This only shows their obsession”, Meta said.
