Order and safety: Rama in interpellation

10/03/2014 00:00

Summoned in an interpellation about the country’s public order and
safety, Prime Minister Edi Rama declared that the figures have shown so
far that the government knows to lead the country better than the
previous one.

“We have decreased the number of murders and victims with one third”, Rama declared.

The Prime Minister reminded that Berisha has declared that he would make a public apology if the list of crimes would appear false, but today is the day for Topalli to make an apology, on Berisha’s behalf.

“The number of victims is less than 50, the number of murders is less than 43. On the same time of one year ago, we had 73 victims and 64 murders”, Rama declared, underlining that they are not damaging the government with their figures, but the entire country.

“According to Parliament Member Topalli, the crime has increased in the past months while drug traffic has intensified”.

“You are th government of dynamite and the answer you gave was not correct”, Topalli declared, addressing to Rama.

Debates in Parliament

The Parliament started with debates and controversies the session of this Monday. The debate focused on the clashes between the former Parliament Speaker, Jozefina Topalli, and the current one, Ilir Meta.

Topalli accused Meta of violating the law and the constitution by closing the doors of the Parliament this Thursday without the opposition’s consent.

“The Parliament Speaker reacted immediately, saying that if they have complaints against him, they need to make a motion for discharging him. He used irony by saying that he couldn’t gather the Parliament when Berisha was absent.

Meta to the opposition: “You cannot take in hostage the Parliament’s functionality”

The opposition Parliament Members have accused the government of violating the laws and the constitution, which, according to them, is putting in danger the country’s candidate status this June. They stood up for a moment and started protesting in front of the podium, what made the Parliament Speaker accuse the opposition of trying to take in hostage the functionality of the Parliament, which, according to him, they will fail to.

“You’re here to make this session unfunctional and abuse with maximal tolerance, because you have been speaking for two hours, against the regulation. I will continue with the second part of the agenda. You have the right to do as you wish. You cannot take in hostage the functionality of the Parliament, on the same time when you are speaking about Constitution and Regulation”, Meta declared.

The opposition abandons the room for a few minutes

After debates and the protest held inside the Parliament, the opposition Parliament Members left for a few minutes, speaking for the media reporters outside. The head of the Democratic Party Parliamentary Group, Edi Paloka, declared that this was not a boycott. He said that the opposition’s reaction to constant violations by the government will increase, and the majority will soon face the consequences of the anger caused among citizens.

“When the constitution and laws are violated, you can understand what the Albanian people expects for this Parliament. Certainly that the citizens’ protest has started for their reason, for the actions that this majority is undertaking and which will apparently only increase. They will be forced to face the consequences”, Paloka declared.
