Opposition’s boycott: Mediu, solution must come from the European Parliament

The Republican Party is giving optimistic signals showing that something
is moving to guarantee the opposition’s presence in Parliament. The
solution is expected from the European Parliament, and together with the
Democratic Party leader, Lulzim Basha, the Republican Party has
discussed the joint steps that will be taken by the opposition parties.

“There is a huge concern from the international factor and they are quickly engaging to resolve this political stalemate in Albania. When I talk about the international community, I talk about the European Parliament level. We met with some representatives form the left and right centered parties at the European Parliament, which want to get involved for realizing this solution. We need a presence of the opposition in Parliament with its voice to function based on the Constitution. The European Parliament members want this political situation in Albania to come to an end and everything works within the constitutional structure”, declared the Head of the Republican Party, Fatmir Mediu.

Prime Minister Rama will visit Brussels in the next week, and chances are that the Rapporteur for Albania at the European Parliament, Knut Fleckenstein, will travel to Tirana one of these days. Their mission is to resolve the situation before their mandates expire.

“I don’t think it is a matter of mandates. It is a matter of Parliamenarism and this is what we will discuss. We need to resolve the problem of a normal functionality at the Albanian parliament, because this is not about names, but about the role of the opposition, of the majority and of the Constitution”, Mediu declared.

But when will the opposition return to Parliament?

“This moment will come and we will discuss it with the international factor, which will be part of this engagement, and based on this judgement we will take joint decisions”, declared the Republican Party leader.
