Although “close”, no compromise has been confirmed for the negotiations
that were supposed to bring the opposition back to Parliament after five
months of boycott.
After the Albanian delegation led by Edi Rama left Brussels, the negotiations have continued in the European Parliament to guarantee all-inclusive support t the initiative of the Rapporteur for Albania, Knut Fleckenstein, who has the support of Eduard Kukan, rapporteur for the European Popular Parties.
Both MPs are expected to play the mediators, after a proposition published yesterday by Top Channel. For this, they have the blessing of the leaders of both political groups in the European Parliament, and that of President Martin Schultz, as confirmed by confidential sources after his meeting with the rapporteur for Albania, Knut Fleckestein, who received the mandate for mediation from the European left parties, the Albanian Socialist Party and the Albanian Socialist Movement for Integration.
The talks in the right centered group are expected to take more time. Kukan has taken the trust of his political group and that of their leader, Mr.Weber, but he is still waiting for a final answer by the Albanian Democratic Party.
Other sources say that this confirmation is expected to come by the Albanian Democratic Party leader, Lulzim Basha.
But if the 24-hour deadline is now expired, officials of the European parliament appear determined to get involved in what seems to be the only hance to help their Albanian counterparts in overcoming this situation within this year, and they extended the deadline until the end of this week.
Top Channel published the five points of the platform in which is proposed the return of the opposition in Parliament within December, the presentation of a draft law on the decriminalization of the Parliaemnt by the minority within January, voting it with consensus in a plenary session within the first six months of 2015.
The European Parliament offers mediators for intermediating both parties and invites the European Commission to help with their best legal practices and monitor the implementation of the agreement.
