The opposition has expressed its concern regarding the dangers that
according to them are facing the rule of law and the authorities that
monitor the functionality of democracy in Albania.
One of them, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Euroepan Council, through the co-rapporteur for Albania, Jonathan Evans, was updated about the main concern of the opposition, which is related to the growing criminality and drug traffic in the country.
The opposition leader, Lulzim Basha, says that “the drug traffic with alibi and protection from the government, is a source of political corruption that makes an extraordinary danger for the elections and democracy”.
The opposition asked that the Parliamentary Assembly of the European Council should include in their monitoring report for Albania the concern of the Democratic Party for the government’s failure to implement the verdicts of the Constitutional Court and of other courts for the unfair firing of public employees and for violating the property rights of citizens.
Basha shared these concerns with the Republican Congressman, David Jolly, a new member of the American congress with a long lobbying career. The Democratic Party says that the government is holding unacceptable, anti-constitutional and illegal stances with the purpose to take over the independent institutions.
Although he described the work of the Rama-Meta government with only negative notes, Basha declared that the Democratic Party supports every integration process of Albania without any condition.
