One day before this Saturday’s protest, Lulzim Basha’s agenda was very busy with meetings and walks on Tirana’s streets, appealing citizens to join their march.
The Democratic Party has communicated with the police, and this protest will be different from the others, because there will be a march.
The last protest was on January 27th, against the appointing of Arta Marku as Provisory Prosecutor General.
The symbolic demonstration of this Saturday is focused on the Democratic Party accusations against the Interior Minister, Fatmir Xhafaj.
DP claims he allowed his brother, Agron Xhafaj, sentenced in Italy for drug traffic, to not serve his time. Through an audio recording, published by the Democratic Party, the opposition claims that Xhafaj is still communicating with traffickers.
Agron Xhafaj refuted the audio as manipulated and traveled to Italy to face the Italian justice. The opposition appealed the Minister to resign and called people to join them in this Saturday’s protest.
The protest is being held at the same time when Tirana is being visited by representatives from international countries, such as the OSCE General Secretary and German Florian Hahn. A “Morning Prayer” has also been organized by left and right MPs, in presence of the US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, Pit Marocco.
