One day before the Conference of Chairmen, which will decide about the
establishment of the Parliamentary Commission, the opposition gave a
negative answer to the invitation to become part of it.
The Democratic Party leader, Lulzim Basha, declared that the majority needs to guarantee them the right of veto in the bipartisan commission, and that the reform will not be delayed unilaterally in the Parliament floor.
“Full and all inclusive consensus for every decision in every bipartisan commission for this matter, and full consensus for the final product of this reform, which, as I said, should be all inclusive and deep, since it has direct effects on the citizens’ lives, for decentralization and local autonomy, which is a criteria for Albania’s European Union integration path, and naturally, it has direct electoral effects”, Basha declared.
Although the Commission has an equal number of members from both the opposition and the majority, the opposition leader declared that the reform is moving far from the good tradition of the past for planning and approving important reforms.
If the majority, which now has the qualified majority in Parliament, approves the new administrative alone, Lulzim Basha woarned that: “We will be obliged to have a powerful reaction in all institutional, civil, national and international areas. I hope that we will not see a show of strength, for which I am not willing to get engaged, but we will be ready if they call us in a battlefield, because for us and every Albanian, this would be the battle for defending the holy border of democracy”, Basha declared.
