The Socialist Party in power has requested disciplinary measures for 26 opposition deputies, on the grounds that they obstructed the plenary session on Thursday.
Today’s session of the Albanian parliament was interrupted after the hall was blocked by former prime minister Sali Berisha and his supporters. Berisha said that from today, “opposition MPs start their permanent resistance”.
Meanwhile the socialists demand the meeting of the secretariat for the procedures, voting and ethics, for the evaluation of the disciplinary measure for the MPs Sali Berisha, Flamur Noka, Albana Vokshi, Xhelal Mziu, Gazment Bardhi, Bledion Nallbati, Edmond Spaho, Saimir Korreshi, Lindita Metaliaj, Ramadan Likaj, Luan Baçi, Lefter Gështenja, Ina Zhupa, Helidon Bushati, Isuf Çela, Asllan Dogjani, Bujar Leskaj, Lodovik Hasani, Tritan Shehu, Greta Bardeli, Dhurata Çupi, Sorina Kote, Kastriot Piroli, Kasëm Mahmutaj, Tomor Alizoti and Qani Xhafaj.
Just as they warned in the group’s meeting two days ago, Berisha and his supporters blocked the Assembly hall this morning. They created disorder and overturned the chairs of the ministers, while afterwards the former prime minister went live on “Facebook”, where he said that they will no longer allow the Assembly to be “a vassal institution of PM Edi Rama”.
After the disturbances in the hall, the deputy speaker of the Assembly, Ermonela Felaj, announced the postponement of the plenary session and the socialist deputies walked out. The lights went out in the Assembly hall, but the democrats continued to stay and talk or the televisions in the dark.
Berisha told the media that there is no going back.
“Even if 46 MPs are expelled, we will not give up. The concrete step began now. There is no more withdrawal. We do not recognise the decision”.
