Zheni Gjergji, the deputy of the Democratic Party in Elbasan, has reacted regarding the dangerous waste that is allegedly generated by the “Kurum” company at its steel plant of the city in central Albania.
Through a reaction on social networks, Gjergji says that the citizens of Elbasan have long been condemned to live in this environmental hell, but now, according to her, “we have moved from environmental crime to the crime of trafficking in dangerous substances”.
She calls on the Durrës prosecutor’s office, which has opened proceedings on this matter, to conduct a full and in-depth investigation.
“Hazardous waste in Elbasan? Transparency, now and immediately! As a member of the Assembly, as a citizen, as a mother, I am deeply shocked by the discovery of the international traffic of hazardous waste, in which Albania is involved. I will support the initiatives of the DP Parliamentary Group for transparency, as soon as the new session of the Assembly starts”, Gjergji wrote.
The development comes after many reports so far suggest that the trafficked waste generator is the Kurum company.
“I understand that the scene has now become big, from Durrës to us in Thailand, but we must not forget that Elbasan and its inhabitants are the most affected, since Kurum has its activity right in our city”, added to the deputy.
