Opposition loses 700 votes in Kolonja

The Democratic Party stayed silent after losing elections at the Kolonja
municipality. Lulzim Basha visited today the DP structures in Elbasan,
but he said nothing about Kolonja.

But what happened in Kolonja? The victory of the Socialist candidate was no surprise. The surprise was the very deep vote difference. Last year, the difference between the two candidates was 727 votes, now it went to 2101 votes, although the turnover was almost equal.

The idea to run with a non-party member in an area that has always voted left, didn’t prove successful. The DP leader left Kolonja to Agron Duka and the candidate proposed by him, a former Socialist who had moved to Tirana.

But the result was dramatic. The candidate of the Agrarian Party, supported by the Democratic Party, lost 673 more votes.

However, the Democratic Party didn’t hold an intensive campaign in Kolonja. Leader Basha went there only for the opening of the campaign, and only a few DP leaders were seen, and only on the voting day.
