The Democratic Party leader, Lulzim Basha, said that the replacement of
the Minister of Finances, Shkelqim Cani, with the Minister of Economy,
Arben Ahmetaj, was done because he had refused the decision of PM Edi
Rama to give VAT in concession, and the newly appointed Minister will do
it.

“Ahmetaj as Minister of Finances confirms that robbery of public money is the golden standard of Edi Rama. Ahmetaj’s appointing, accoridng to the network of investigative journalists in Western Balkan, Birn, was accelerated to allow the VAT concession that mounts up to 140 million EUR, and that Edi Rama wants to give to his brother, Olsi Rama. The former Minister of Finances, Shkelqim Cani, has refused to sign this unheard and shameful concession”, Basha said.

Decriminalization, the justice reform and fair elections were the focus of the talks between the DP leader, Lulzim Basha, and the US State Secretary, John Kerry.

The DP leader informed the Parliamentary Group about the messages given by Kerry.

“Decriminalization is a precondition for every reform, for every other step that Albania needs to take for the justice reform. Secondly, the justice reform. The DP supports without conditions a reformed justice, without political ties, that fights high-level corruption. Thirdly, free and fair elections. I asked the USA to engage for resolving this existential problem and Secretary Kerry confirmed full support”, Basha said.

The DP leader interprets Kerry’s messages as encouragement for the opposition.
