Opposition leader meets President for Bank of Albania

After meeting with Prime Minister Rama, Nishani met with the DP leader, Lulzim Basha, who valued the role of the President in preserving the financial stability. Basha declared that the goal of the opposition is to preserve the independence of the Bank of Albania and the stability of the monetary policy, both vitally important for the economy and our citizens.

The meeting between the President and the DP takes place in a time when the opposition is outside the Parliament, and might not even have the chance to express the President’s proposition with a vote.

However, when asked by journalists if he sees this as a chance of cooperation with the opposition, the Prime Minister expressed an unusual readiness to meet with the DP leader.

“We will not use the majority to politicize the process or damage the independence of the Bank of Albania. If the opposition wants to see this as a moment to return to their duty, we will welcome it and we will met with the DP leader to exchange our views. But I don’t have to make an invitation, because I have had many refusals. I am open to any communication if they have something to say”, the Prime Minister declared.
