The Democratic Party leader, Lulzim Basha, is attending the EPP summit in Malt, where he met with the EUROPOL Director, Rob Wainrigh.

Basha shared his deep concern for the “shocking production and trafficking of marijuana in Albania, which is turning the country into a transit gate of heroine, and a main money laundering source”.

All these issues were underlined in the recent report of EUROPOL, says the Democratic Party communication.

The Albanian opposition leader updated the EUROPOL leader with the Democratic Party plan to fight the organized crime and illegal traffics, in order to stop drug production and traffic.

He also discussed the possibility of establishing a quick cooperation protocol as regards fingerprints verification, for an efficient implementation of the decriminalization law, including the fight against organized crime and drug traffic.

Wainright offered his support for this project and for the investigation and tracking of organized crime assets, and hidden wealth of high-level officials who have obtained them through trafficks and corruption.

Basha thanked the Director of this institution for the excellent cooperation which brought the visa liberalization with Europe by the end of 2010, allowing all Albanians to travel freely in the Schengen area.

Wainright was present in Malta, where EUROPOL received a prize for merits in the fight against crime.
