The Albanian opposition leader, Lulzim Basha, used in Malta the same
language he uses in Tirana. He described Albania as a country where the
European project is under pressure.

“The main factors of this pressure in my country are organized crime and drug traffic, which are threatening the foundations of democratic co-existence and the rule of law”, Basha said.

The opposition leader blamed the government for Albania’s ranking as top cannabis supplier in Europe, and for increasing cannabis cultivation five-fold during the past year.

“Thousands of people work in these plantations that are guarded by hundreds of armed men, hired by the organized crime. This industry, which is being protected by the government and has direct ties with it, is producing hundreds of millions of Euros, according to international reports”, Basha said.

“This is the political project of the socialist majority for manipulating the next elections”, bBasha said, and described the battle of the Albanian opposition, as a battle for defending European values.

“Our battle for free and fair elections wants to cut the ties between the government and organized crime. This is why only a technical government can fulfill the conditions for free and fair elections, by implementing the decriminalization aw and by fighting drug cultivation”, Basha said.
