The compromise to approve the criminal amnesty law on Thursday in the Albanian Parliament is reported to have been found. The exclusion of high officials who have been investigated by SPAK prosecution and the pardon of opposition protesters, are two points for which an agreement was negotiated and reached between the SP in power and the opposition DP.
24 four hours before the plenary session, the largest democratic group led by Sali Berisha, made public the amendment that paves the way for the union of votes with the socialists.
The Berisha opposition group “Reestablishment” demands that a legal clause be established that Amnesty, whether in pardon or reduced sentence, does not benefit any person who has been convicted by the Special Court against Corruption and Organized Crime.
The Democrats have also made sure that there is a pardon for all the protesters who have participated in illegal gatherings, be they of the Lulzim Basha or Sali Berisha group. In order to save those who attacked with Molotov cocktails in the February 20 protest, an extension in time of the amnesty was requested, setting March 31, 2024 as the deadline.
Sources from the parliamentary group of the Socialist Party told Top Channel that the Bardhi amendment will be accepted, thus producing the right number of votes for the approval of the amnesty, which will benefit about 700 prisoners and two thousand people on probation.
