The Democratic Party of Albania, represented by Enkelejd Alibeaj, appealed the decision of the Central Election Commission to the Appeals and Sanctions Commission, regarding the non-registration of the Democratic Party as a political entity in the local elections of May 14, after the refusal of a signature by former president Lulzim Basha, as requested.
The CEC stated earlier that Lulzim Basha’s refusal to sign the declaration, as required by the Electoral Code, where it agrees that he will not commit electoral crimes, risks the Democratic Party not being registered.
Alibeaj replied that this is not a personal responsibility, but it should be taken in the capacity of the current party leader.
The CEC has set a deadline for completing and resending the application for election registration, which expires at midnight, however Indrit Sefa, legal representative of the Democratic Party, stated that the application for registration submitted to the CEC is complete and that he will not bring other documentation.
“The DP will not file any additional documents, the legal documentation presented by the DP is complete and legal.
“Political games and arguments which in our belief are raised by the commissioner, cannot be made in the building where the administration of the elections takes place, which must be independent and apolitical.
“The commissioner should not wait for 12 o’clock at night as he claimed, but give a decision now, we will wait here for the commissioner’s decision” – said Sefa.
