Even this year, the Albanian political class is still divided about November 28th and 29th.
For the opposition, November 28th is the day when the country was liberated. That’s why the Democratic Party leader, Lulzim basha, paid homage at the Martyrs’ Cemetery in Tirana.
Basha declared that the sacrifices paid by our predecessors for freedom and independence should not be covered by the interests of political agendas.
“This is the day that unites the spirits of Albanians, the day of Independence and of our flag. The roots of the independence and freedom of Albania are in the sublime sacrifices of thousands of Albanians who kept alive the light of national freedom for one of the oldest civilizations in Europe. This day is for honoring them. This is the day of free, independent, democratic and European Albania. Freedom in all of its dimensions. Independence from the Nazi occupation and from the communist dictatorship. We honor the figure of those who never stopped fighting. Today we have the responsibility to not cover the memory of these sacrifices with political interests. Our biggest responsibility today is to work and bring more individual freedom, more trust in the right to chose. By doing this, we honor the will of thousands of martyrs, and we give a true sense to this celebration”, Basha declared.
Present in this homage was the former Prime Minister, Sali Berisha, and other MPs of the biggest party from the opposition.
