Opposition and government debate economic drop

The economic drop in the second trimester has started a hot political
debate not only for the cause, but also for the situation of the
Albanian economy. The opposition accused the government of plunging the
country into a crisis.

“The shocking data for the economic progress of our country during this year have not been unexpected or unknown for the Albanian citizens. No matter how hard Rama tries to hide statistics in his offices, the citizens know, because they see how they are losing their jobs each day, how prices are increasing, how revenues have been reduced and how the uncertainty for the future is increased”, declared the former Minister of Finances, Ridvan Bode.

But the Minister of Economy, Arben Ahmetaj, declared that the drop for the second trimester is related to the misuse of the budget one year ago by Mr.Bodr. For this he mentioned the public investment figures, in which the government spent 80% of the annual fund during the first semester.

“What happened in the second trimester, is that we saw an electoral pit created by the government that left our country in that difficult economic situation. 80% of the public investments were spent within one trimester. This is the trimester when the government created 200 million USD of debts”, Ahmetaj declared.

The Minister of Economy says that without this deforming effect, the INSTAT data show that the economic growth is being consolidated and that the growth for the rest of the year will be 2%.

“The last trimester of 2013, the first trimester of 2014 and the second trimester of this year, when compared between each other, have a growth of 0.18%, 0.23% and 0.38%. A statistic that shows the growing trend and the consolidation”, Ahmetaj declared.

But Bode has another opinion.

“For one year, Banks have blocked the crediting of the economy. Investments have halved, foreign investors are leaving our country. Two of the three trimesters of the Rama government, two have decreased economic growth. Wait, you haven’t seen anything yet”, Bode declared.

One day ago the Institution of Statistics declared that the economy dropped with 0.6% in the second trimester, compared to the same period of one year ago.
