The Greek police have found one ton of cannabis in a Patra beach.
Authorities say that the drug was removed from the sea this morning.
The narcotics is thought to have stayed under water for several hours. The cannabis was packed in 50 bags and weighed at around 1 ton. Greek authorities believe that the drug was sent from Albania on board of a sea vessel.
A car was also found near the sea, suspected to transport the narcotics to Athens. According to the Greek police, the Albanian traffickers have started using the sea lines to send drugs to Greece, due to the increase checks in the national roads between Greece and Albania.
This quantity might have come from what they call the “Saranda Gang”, a criminal organization that traffics narcotics to Greece. The Greek authorities told Top Media that the mountains between Saranda and Gjirokastra have turned into the biggest production point of narcotics, probably even more than in Lazarat.
Cultivation is better in this area due to the better environmental conditions and the abundant water. Traffic to Greece without a cost makes it even more competitive. This organization prefers the mountain area between Gjirokastra and Saranda, due to the fact that many of the villages around this area are empty, and Albanian authorities are mostly focused in Lazarat and Vlore River.
