The mission of the Albanian Marine Forces in the Aegean Sea, as part of a NATO operation, will be extended with one year, although it was decided to end with this year.

The Minister of Defense, Olta Xhacka, declared that this decision is due to the positive results achieved by the “Oriku” ship during this year, saving many emigrants in the Aegean.

“A few days ago we confirmed to NATO that our Albanian boys and girls will keep patrolling the Aegean Sea for 12 others, to save more lives, as they did with 700 Syrian refugees who were taken alive and well to shore”, Xhacka declared.

By the end of November, a second ship of the Albanian Fleet will replace Orik. For the Minister of Defense, a good news is that four patrol ships have been equipped with new weapons systems.
