Sokol Mjaçaj, who is serving a life sentence in the IEVP “Peqin” high security prison in central Albania, fired a gun at the guards this Friday, while the reports spoke of a hostage situation inside the institution.
Mjaçaj had a conflict with two other convicts, Arben Lleshi and Indrit Shaqja, as it is reported that the first has died from his injuries. Shaqja is reported to be out of danger.
In the meantime, it is reported that the convict for two murders had taken hostage at gunpoint the kitchen staff at the prison institution.
According to the General Directorate of Prisons, no police officers or civilians were injured and the situation was resolved after the intervention.
“Due to a conflict between three people sentenced to life imprisonment, two of them were injured and in the meantime the situation is being managed! We clarify that there are no guards, police staff or civilians injured”, announced the Directorate of Prisons.
Sokol Mjaçaj is sentenced to life for the murder of two Czech tourists, Michal Svatos and Anna Kusinova, on July 3, 2015 in the village of Prekal in Dukagjin, with the intention of robbery.
