On March 8th, civil society has reminded that many women rights have not
been respected yet. Protesters symbolically kept images with faces of
Parliament Members, and asked for more women in the government, as a way
for making the society progress faster.

“Only 19% of this Parliament is made of women. Only 1.8% of mayors are women. Men control 81% of the Parliament and 98.2% of the local administration. The more women in politics, the more opoprtunities we will have for friendly policies for women”, declared Altin Hazizaj, representative of the Civil Society.

The opposition held a protest in front of the Prime Minister’s office against the new government’s recruitments by removing former employees of the public administration.

A group of young men gathered in protest against the blood feuds, mentioning the death of the 17-year-old girl in Malesi e Madhe.

In this climate of protests, an International Fair for women was held in front of the National Museum of History, where enterprises led by women were promoted.

“Our goal is to push not only the creation of a festive environment, because women celebrate in a gray environment, unfortunately, but also to show the women who work and produce. They are able to make progress as the ladies that we are looking today”, declared Agimarta Lula, Executive Manager of “Clover Relations and Exhibitions”.

The main goal of this fair was raising awareness among the population for supporting the Albanian women.

Women benefit from amnesty

Socialist Party representatives declared that they are watching very closely the amnesty project for some women at Prison 325.

They said that conditions for women in prison need to be improved, saying that most of them are serving time for crimes they have been forced to commit, due to violent circumstances against them.

The Ministry of Education, Lindita Nikolla, guaranteed maximal attention for their children.
