The positive stance on Albania by the Spanish Foreign Minister, Jose
Garcia Margallo y Marfil, gives signs about a possibly positive decision
for the candidate status from the 28 states.
“It is true, Albania has undertaken a series of important reforms in the past years. The candidate status is necessary for these reforms to continue. It is important for us, because we have close relations with the Western Balkan countries, and we want to preserve and recognize the European perspective in this region”, declared Sebastian Kurz, Foreign Minister of Austria.
Gathered in Luxembourg, one day before the NATO ministerial meeting, the European Chief Diplomats are discussing with the Ukrainian counterpart about further sanctions against Russia, and about the recent developments in Syria, Libya and Iraq.
The candidate status of Albania will be reviewed this Tuesday at the Council for General Matters, which prepares the conclusions for the European summit of the EU heads of states.
Besides their stance about Albania, the European Ministers will also discuss the Adriatic-Ionian strategy presented by the Commission.
