Now an official holiday, the Day of the Albanian Language Alphabet, comes to remind us of the importance of the national identity and its protection from deformations and abuses.
“We should not only demand the care for the Albanian language from teachers, but at all levels, from all those who have a public influence. Politicians, artists, creators, people who have followers, should communicate in pure Albanian because over time Albanian has gained and lost words. It has been enriched and we must show this wealth,” says researcher Teuta Toska.
According to researchers, in the three countries where Albanian is an official language, common policies should be promoted for the best use of Albanian.
“Albanian is an official language in three countries: Albania, Kosovo, and North Macedonia. The linguistic situation is not the same in these three countries. We can say that in Kosovo and Albania there are more opportunities, not as much in North Macedonia, so the three countries should cooperate in order to have common policies for the better distribution of Albanian,” Toska continues.
The Albanian alphabet was unified 116 years ago at the Congress of Manastir. According to Ms. Toska, teacher of Albanian language in Manastir, the Albanians seek more opportunities to learn and study their language, and this opportunity should be offered to them by their countries.
