16 graves are empty in the Meja Memorial Complex in Kosovo, even though 24 years have passed since the massacre.

Among the graves of the children and men of the Beqaj Family, there is also an empty space left for the remains of the missing 17 years old Mentor, who was separated from the family on April 27, 1999.

“It’s sad for Mentor that he hasn’t been found, so that these people know their graves more easily,” sais Agron Beqaj – family member of the missing.

The longing only grows for the Beqaj family who come to Meje every anniversary and know nothing about the fate of their family.

They demand more work from the institutions, so that at least they have a place to cry for little Mentor.

On April 27, 1999, in Meja, the Serbian police evicted all the Albanians from the Reka e Keqe and Lug of Carragoja areas. They were ordered to leave for Albania, before all the men were forcibly stopped in the place known as Lëndina Pikoljum.

As reported 377 of them were executed, including the 14-year-old child.

The speaker of the Assembly of Kosovo, Glauk Konjufca, remembered the 36 children who were killed by the paramilitaries 24 years ago.

“We constantly call on international and local justice to do more for the missing people”, said Konjufca, Speaker of the Assembly of Kosovo.

1617 people are still missing from the war in Kosovo.
