Hydrocarbon wastes from the process of decanting crude oil in deposits in Qafa e Kashit in Mallakastër, are causing great pollution of air and soil.
This waste is dumped in the Marusha reservoir, which has not been cleaned for more than 20 years. The streams with hydrocarbon waste are located near the water pipes from where the whole city of Ballsh is supplied with drinking water. Meanwhile, the environmental pollution that is created is a concern for the whole area, especially the residents of Kash village.
Kash deposits carry out most of the crude oil decantation in the Mallakastra area. The technological water that emerges from the process of decanting crude oil, after traversing agricultural lands to a length of more than 10 km, flows into the Vjosa River, specified as the only wild river in Europe, and then into the Adriatic Sea.
