The mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, reacted sharply today after the statement of the DP leader Sali Berisha, who stated that “during the inspection of the offices of Ajola Xoxa’s ‘Harabel’ foundation, 230 thousand euros in cash were found hidden”.
Through a post published on social networks, the Albanian mayor calls Berisha a ‘mad hyena’, an “unburied corpse” and an “unscrupulous being”. Veliaj also accuses Berisha of the tragedy of Gërdec where 26 people lost their lives, of the murder of four protesters on January 21 and of being a hostage-taker of the Albanian opposition.
“I begin this reaction with a humble apology to all of you who are reading these words addressed to a rabid hyena, an unscrupulous being, an unwashed corpse called Sali Berisha – an evil that has poisoned and continues to divide Albania for 34 years,” Veliaj wrote.
“He has painted his own portrait before the Albanians, as the gravedigger of free elections and the author of bloodshed for his power in 1997, as an underminer of democracy and a blackmailer of the justice system, when he buried 26 Albanians alive in his family business in the explosion in Gerdec, and today as a hostage-taker of the Albanian opposition, which he has decided to take with him to the grave”, said Veliaj, among other things.
The mayor also complained about a visit by the prosecutor’s office to his home two days earlier, when he was in Germany.
On December 5, I left for an official meeting with the Mayor of Hamburg, and the next day, December 6, I was at the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce.
On the morning of December 6, my wife, who was home alone with our son, called me after the special prosecutor’s office team knocked on our apartment door. Of course, we shared without hesitation the belief that we should be completely transparent with our visitors.
“Despite the fact that there was no court order to enter the house and, in addition, an unpleasant situation for the entire neighborhood where we have lived for 12 years (the media loudspeakers had gathered with a notice from who knows who), my wife has been completely cooperative and transparent with the investigative team,” Veliaj continued.
