Hundreds of hectares were flooded in Obot, Oblike and Murriqan, after the recently increased water level in Drin and Buna Rivers.
The Mayor of Shkodra, Voltana Ademi, demanded the government to declare the emergency situation since the floods were not caused by the weather, but by a bad management of the hydropower plan reserves.
Shemsi Prenci, Director of the Civilian Emergency, said that the current flood is not classified as an emergency situation.
The Democratic Party leader, Lulzim Basha, supports Ademi’s request for declaring the emergency state and start compensating farmers.
“With a cynical and irresponsible behavior, the government has refused to declare the emergency situation. The presence of the Armed Forces and their tasks, which include sending medicine and food, proves that this is an emergency situation”, Basha said.
