In the summer months, an increase in the number of road accidents is observed due to the high number of vehicles on the road.
In addition to the citizens movements towards the coastal areas, Albanian living abroad and tourists who come to spend their holidays in our country are added. Figures from the INSTAT statistics agency show an increase in accidents for the month of June by 3.1%.
“If citizens or road users do not receive proper information, they can get stuck in traffic, and some of them, being undisciplined, become aggressive and perform wrong maneuvers that lead to road accidents,” said road expert Artur Sulçe.
Road accidents in 82% of cases occurred as a result of the driver’s behavior, while the highest number of accidents in this period was committed by young people aged between 25-34. Even in this age group, accidents have increased compared to last year.
Friday turns out to be the day when even more accidents occur due to the high vehicle load. Sulçe also mentions some of the most problematic national roads during the summer.
“The main Tirana-Durrës highway, the road to Lezha, is an area with very heavy traffic, from the capital Tirana up to the border with Montenegro. It is also the main interurban roads that are loaded due to overcrowding by citizens who live abroad and come here for vacation,” he added.
The expert appeals for increased caution for all citizens regarding the use of vehicles during the summer season, in order to travel as safely e as possible.
“We must be very careful and if someone makes a wrong pass, the other driver must ease his maneuver so as not to be involved in accidents.”
