Number of diabetic patients increased

One in 20 Albanians suffers from diabetes, but not all of them are aware
of the illness. Diabetes has a growing tendency in our country due to
the increase of inactive life and bad choice of food.

“If we had 30,000 diabetic patients in 2005, in 2011 we have 45,000”, says Dr.Florion Toti.

It seems that patients of Type 2 Diabetes, who make 90% of the cases, today have hopes to be cured. In the past, this illness could only be medicated.

According to a study made by British doctors in 15 patients, 7 of them were cured after a diet with only 600 calories per day.

But doctors are still skeptic, because it still remains to be proved if the illness will return or not to the patients after some months. According to Toti, patients must be very careful when choosing their food.

“The first medication is the way of living. Low levels of fats, more vegetables and carbohydrates. The second medication is physical activity. Walking for at least one hour a day, and after that is the part of the medicaments”, said Toti.

There are 347 people suffering from diabetes all over the world, while it was predicted that this number would be 330 million by 2025. According to statistics, diabetic patients are doubling, ignoring any kind of prediction.
